PETA rekindles interest in reading

 Vol. 8  No.6

Rekindling interest in reading is what the Philippine Educational Theater Association hopes to instill in its annual Children’s Arts Happening. The PETA Children’s Theater Program (PETA-CTP), along with Lampara Publishing House and Terre Des Hommes Netherlands, is launching “BUKLAT: Buhayin ang Aklat!”

The Storybook Theater Project will provide a space for children and child advocates for them to develop an appreciation for reading through performances, workshops, and forums. It also aims to popularize Filipino children’s literature.

For more than 20 years, PETA-CTP has been working extensively with children and young people in marginalized communities through theater—an instrument for their self-expression, creativity, education, protection and development.

The program engages children and young people in the process of developing stories, playmaking, capacity building and in developing community performances and sustained cultural programs in communities and shelters of children in difficult circumstances.

The Storybook Theater Project will take place on November 12-13, 2011 at the PETA Theater Center , #5 Eymard Drive , New Manila, Quezon City , Philippines .
